Daily Prayers — Morning, Evening, Peace, Family, Healing

Prayer, in Scripture, is remarkably ordinary. It happens in kitchens and in prisons, on hillsides and in beds. It does not require special vocabulary. A very short sentence is enough. What matters is honesty and turning — both of which grow with practice.

A Morning Prayer

Father in heaven, thank You for the gift of this new morning. Steady my mind before the day’s noise begins. Give me kind words for the people I meet, patience with what I cannot control, and a soft heart toward You. Where I feel tired, restore me. Where I feel afraid, walk beside me. In Jesus’ name, amen.

An Evening Prayer

Lord, thank You for walking with me through this day. Forgive what I did poorly, receive what I did in Your name, and hold everything I could not finish. Bless the people I love, and the people who are hard for me to love. As I lie down, quiet my thoughts and give me rest. In Jesus’ name, amen.

A Prayer for Peace

God of all comfort, my heart is unsettled. Quiet the noise inside me. Where fear has taken hold, loosen its grip. Where anger has grown, cool it. Give me the peace of Christ, the kind that does not depend on my circumstances. In Jesus’ name, amen.

A Prayer for Healing and Strength

Lord, You know my body, and You know the weariness in it. I ask for healing where it can come, and grace where it does not. Give me strength for today — not for a whole year, not even for a whole week — just today. Surround me with people who help. In Jesus’ name, amen.

A Prayer for Family

Father, thank You for the family You have given me — the ones I chose, the ones I did not, and the friends who have become family. Bless each person by name in my heart today. Where there is tension, soften our words. Where there is distance, draw us gently back toward each other. In Jesus’ name, amen.

A Prayer for Wisdom

Lord, I do not need to know everything today — I only need to know the next right thing. Give me clarity for the decision in front of me. Take away the fog of my own opinions long enough for me to hear You. In Jesus’ name, amen.

A Prayer for Difficult Times

God who is near to the brokenhearted, I do not know how to pray about this. Take my sighs and my silences as prayer. Give me courage to keep going even when the way feels dark. Send unexpected help. Remind me that I am not alone. In Jesus’ name, amen.

A Prayer of Gratitude

Father, thank You. For breath, for daily bread, for the people I so easily take for granted. Thank You for small mercies I did not notice until later. Give me a grateful heart today — the kind that lifts up others rather than weighing them down. In Jesus’ name, amen.

A gentle note on what prayer is — and isn’t

Prayer is not a formula for guaranteed outcomes. Scripture never treats it as a way to force God’s hand. Jesus prayed the most honest prayer of all in the garden the night before He was crucified: “Nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done” (Luke 22:42 KJV). That is a very good model.
